Our Team

Dr. Amy Spoelstra

Dr. Amy and her husband David live in Coeur d’Alene with their beautiful daughter Meela and chocolate lab Izzy.  They opened Spoelstra Family Chiropractic in April of 2008 after moving from South Carolina where Dr. Amy graduated cum laude from Sherman College of Chiropractic.

Amy and her family love to travel and experience new cultures! Her favorite things are exploring new places with her family, learning about different cultures and people, yoga, a good cup of coffee and to study….seriously….she loves to study!

Amy has extensive post-doctoral training in pediatric chiropractic and has contributed to the Practice-Based Research Network with the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association. She is currently working with New Zealand College of Chiropractic to publish case studies from within her practice on pediatric chiropractic and is a member of the Australian Spinal Research Foundation and the International Pediatric Chiropractic Association.

Dr. Amy is also the founder of the FOCUS program and Neuro-Deflective Retraining Method. She opened the FOCUS program within her practice in 2011 and has been helping children and adults with neurodevelopmental disorders in the northwest area ever since. Dr. Amy is also the founder of FOCUS Educational Services, where she trains and consults other doctors around the country in the FOCUS model. Dr. Amy is the co-founder of Navigate Your Healing, LLC, which is an online platform designed to help parents and families who are affected by ASD and other neurodevelopmental disorders navigate the overwhelming and often isolating world of healing and living life with children with developmental challenges. She feels an enormous amount of gratitude to be able to live this life of purpose and love with her family.

Dr. Hannah

Dr. Hannah Layden was born and raised in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. She received a soccer scholarship to Oklahoma, which is where she received her undergraduate education. She then went on to attend Life Chiropractic College West, in Hayward, California.

After a few years of family practice in California, Dr. Hannah, her husband Cameron, and son Quinn, moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, to join Dr. Amy at Spoelstra Family Chiropractic & FOCUS.

It was during chiropractic school that Dr. Hannah decided to begin an advanced post-doctorate training in pediatrics and pregnancy through the International Chiropractic Pediatrics Association. She has completed over 200 hours in seminars, has contributed to practice-based research projects, and continues to work towards her certification.

Dr. Hannah always knew that she wanted to positively impact the lives of others. She is beyond grateful that being a chiropractor has given her the platform to do so through neuro-based chiropractic, education, and empowering her practice members to believe in their body’s own abilities to heal. She has found passion in her own journey as a woman and a mom and has focused her studies on creating a multi-pillar program to increase the health and quality of life of women. She believes that, rather than live in a world where we allow symptoms and diagnoses to run our lives, we can decide to be an active participant and take control of our health and life.

Dr. Hannah’s heart is happy to be living closer to Canada and getting to play in the snow 😉.  She enjoys playing soccer, being by the lake, going camping, hitting the slopes, traveling to new places, going to the park with her son, and learning…..always learning!

David

David is a native of Michigan and earned his bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University. David and Amy met at MSU and then lived in Spartanburg, South Carolina while Amy attended chiropractic school.  In April of 2008, David and Amy moved to Coeur d Alene and started Spoelstra Family Chiropractic. At that time, David was a Logistics Manager for a corporation in Spokane Valley and later played a role in creating a fully visual K-12 school curriculum with a team of content developers.  After years of talk about starting the Focus program, David became the first full-time Focus coach and trainer when the program began in 2011. David worked to develop and expand the scope and content of the Focus program over the next 6 years, as well as training 4 different coaches that would work alongside him over the years.

David’s favorite aspect about life these days is being a parent to his daughter Meela.  In fact, due to his work in Focus and fathering experience, he’s currently writing a book on parenting.  David’s favorite thing about working as the Lead Focus Coach and Trainer is the mentorship aspect of the Focus Coach position.  After discovering his love for mentoring in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Inland Northwest program, David never looked back and continues to expand his mentoring skills to this day.  David enjoys pretty much every outdoor activity that exists and is always looking to try anything new. If you don’t find him on his bike pulling Meela around, you’ll probably find him on a pickleball court, or standing in a river holding a fly rod, or in the pool playing water polo, or in a sea kayak out on the lake, or maybe next to a campfire somewhere deep in the woods.  Wherever you might find him, he probably won’t be sitting still 🙂

Meloney

Meloney was born and raised in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. She has an amazing husband that is a firefighter/engineer with CD’A fire and two beautiful children ages 7 and 4. She received a full ride gymnastics scholarship to Sacramento State where she earned her bachelor’s degree in child development. While working towards her degree she did an internship at the MIND (Medial Investigation of Neurodevelopmental Disorders.) Institute at the UC Davis Medical Center.  After graduation, Meloney moved back home to Coeur d’Alene and received her certification in IBI (Intensive Behavioral Intervention) and began working with children affected by ASD and other neurodevelopmental disorders.

In 2013, Meloney met Dr. Amy and Dave and was introduced to the FOCUS program. She began training with Dave and Dr. Amy and started doing at home FOCUS with one of the children enrolled in the program. She has enjoyed being able to learn more through her extended training about the FOCUS program and to now be on site as a FOCUS coach where she can continue her passion to work with children and families to facilitate a better expression of life.

Meloney has always loved working with children and she also coaches gymnastics at a local gymnastics club. In her free time you can find Meloney with her family hiking Tubbs Hill or at a park enjoying the outdoors.

Jill

Jill was born and raised in North Idaho and loves to spend her time with friends and family appreciating all that the beautiful Coeur d’Alene area has to offer. If Jill could go visit anywhere, it would be Disney World, even though she has already been multiple times.

Jill has worked with children professionally for over 8 years and has a keen interest in brain development. Although Jill has a passion for caring for babies, she thoroughly enjoys continuing to pursue higher education and training in the world of neuro-developmental challenges. Working for Dr. Amy Spoelstra was a natural next step after being a “behind the scenes” part of the team for years. She currently holds the title of Administrative Chiropractic Assistant while assisting with Dr. Amy’s various FOCUS programs and trainings.

JESSICA

Jessica has lived in the Coeur d’Alene area with her daughter since 2015. Her background is in early childhood education, somatic dance, and she has taught a variety of art mediums. She loves working with children. They remind her of why it’s important to play. That’s just one facet of why she is so grateful to be a part of the Spoelstra Family Chiropractic team! She enjoys being outside in nature, doing water and board sports, gardening, and fire dancing. On the weekends, you will find her hanging out with her daughter, face painting at local events, or painting murals around town!
