Our Team

David

David is a native of Michigan and earned his bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University. David and Amy met at MSU and then lived in Spartanburg, South Carolina while Amy attended chiropractic school.  In April of 2008, David and Amy moved to Coeur d Alene and started Spoelstra Family Chiropractic. At that time, David was a Logistics Manager for a corporation in Spokane Valley and later played a role in creating a fully visual K-12 school curriculum with a team of content developers.  After years of talk about starting the Focus program, David became the first full-time Focus coach and trainer when the program began in 2011. David worked to develop and expand the scope and content of the Focus program over the next 6 years, as well as training 4 different coaches that would work alongside him over the years.

David’s favorite aspect about life these days is being a parent to his daughter Meela.  In fact, due to his work in Focus and fathering experience, he’s currently writing a book on parenting.  David’s favorite thing about working as the Lead Focus Coach and Trainer is the mentorship aspect of the Focus Coach position.  After discovering his love for mentoring in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Inland Northwest program, David never looked back and continues to expand his mentoring skills to this day.  David enjoys pretty much every outdoor activity that exists and is always looking to try anything new. If you don’t find him on his bike pulling Meela around, you’ll probably find him on a pickleball court, or standing in a river holding a fly rod, or in the pool playing water polo, or in a sea kayak out on the lake, or maybe next to a campfire somewhere deep in the woods.  Wherever you might find him, it probably won’t be sitting still 🙂

Macaela

Macaela is an up and coming young professional, who has moved all across the country but has roots in the Coeur d’Alene community. Macaela is the mother to a beautiful little boy, and enjoys spending her time in the great outdoors! She has always been passionate about working with children and people of all ages with developmental disabilities. She has volunteered with Special Olympics and also started the first Special Needs Employment program at a local health store.

Macaela started working for Spoelstra Family Chiropractic in January of 2017, with the dream of being a FOCUS coach. After months of intensive training, she is an on-site FOCUS coach and assists Dr. Amy with coordinating her FOCUS Educational services where she helps train and consults other doctors and professionals in the FOCUS and Neuro- Deflective Retraining models.

Shelly

Shelly is like our office “mom”. In addition to being a magnet for all the kids in the practice (seriously, all kids love Ms. Shelly), she also keeps the doctors and staff on time and organized!  Shelly is the newest team member here at Spoelstra Family Chiropractic. She joined our team in May of 2018 and quickly realized that working with families and kids in their journey to better health and function was something in which she found great purpose!

Shelly has lived and traveled all over this beautiful country but has put her stakes down in North Idaho. You can often find her enjoying the outdoors and spending time with her dog, Jasmine. Shelly has a lifetime of professional experience in all different realms that have allowed her to help in the continuous improvement of our procedures and organization at SFC and FOCUS. Shelly knew at a young age that she wanted to work with children in some capacity and has been searching for this opportunity for years. From the second she walked through the doors for her interview and got a high five from one of our FOCUS kids, she knew this was the place for her! Shelly is our Office Manager and helps keep the office moving and organized with her upbeat personality.
